This Friends project has come about as a result of our Honorary Vice President Mrs Wendi Atherton’s’ kind offer to loan us, on a permanent basis, a number of historical maps and plans of Dover Castle. An allocation of funds was agreed by the committee so that we could purchase an antique ‘Plans Chest’ in which to secure these important documents. The conservation and preservation of these documents was researched and advice sought from the Conservators in the Stone Hut. Acting on their advice we purchased the appropriate acid free storage folders and these have now been matched to the relevant documents. The documents are currently being catalogued and photographed. The Friends plan to make these documents available for viewing during open days and special events. The documents are now stored securely in our new office accommodation in the Keep Yard. We will be updating this section in due course with information and research findings after the documents have been viewed in detail.
