WW2 Weekend 2026

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the hundreds of visitors who joined us for our Kitchen Garden and WW2 display over the weekend. It was an absolute delight to engage in enlightening conversations with our visitors, who displayed remarkable enthusiasm and curiosity about our exhibits. Our dedicated reenactors relished the chance to share captivating stories, reminisce about the past, and bring history to life in a vivid way. We were thrilled to see visitors of all ages, from eager young children to seasoned adults, thoroughly enjoying themselves and immersing themselves in the activities we had on offer.  The ‘Dig for Victory’ event in the Kitchen Garden attracted over 400 enthusiastic visitors throughout the weekend, and we were delighted to receive more than £200 in donations, which will be reinvested into the project to support the ongoing development of the garden. Outside the garden, our Royal Artillery Major was kept busy distributing no fewer than 400 ‘restricted passes’, which proved incredibly popular among both children and adults alike. It was wonderful to see everyone embracing the spirit of the event with such enthusiasm. When the ‘air raid siren’ sounded, its haunting wail echoed around the Castle grounds, adding a truly atmospheric touch to the proceedings. As we look ahead, planning for next year’s event begins immediately, and we eagerly anticipate welcoming you all back. We are already exploring exciting new ways to make it even more impressive and engaging. As we reflect on the success of this year’s event, we also wish to express our deepest appreciation to our devoted team of Friends volunteers, whose unwavering commitment, hard work, and passion made our participation in this prestigious English Heritage event a resounding success.
